Excellent examples. I was reminded of Mike Rowe's famous idea of "safety third" (discussed a bit in this video https://www.facebook.com/TuckerCarlsonTonight/videos/642032196132103/) in which he posits that a focus on "safety first" encourages me to believe that someone else is always looking out for my safety and cares more about it than I do--which naturally leads to complacency and dependence, as you note.

I haven't seen that interview, but I will check it out. Mike Rowe can be counted on for basic common sense.
